The Hammock is an amazing thing. I’m sure why I love them so much, but I do. And I think everyone else does, as well. Sure, there might be times when we take a spill and fall to the ground, but those rare moments are forgiven once we regain our balance and bandage up our wounds. There’s nothing better than slipping into a hammock on a warm summer evening with a beer resting gently on the green grass below and a book in your hand. Even though we fall asleep after 3 pages, the notion of reading there just inspires us with delight. The nap is our reward for effort.
This photo was taken at Villa de Leyva, Colombia, June 2010 (just a few days ago) as I settled into my hammock with laptop in tow to catch up on some overdue emails. I was writing to my new boss and my new agency about a story that I would need share with the entire company on the first day. I figured that if I told them the story of me emailing my new boss and new agency from the comforts of a hammock they might not have enjoyed it as much as the story of my near violation of federal and state counterfeiting laws and near prison term.
Now I’m pondering how I can hook a hammock up in my office. I’m sure these cube walls could support me, right?
