Microsoft: Code Name Epicenter

Categories: Design Interactive

The Challenge:

Microsoft challenged my team to design a gesture based user interface for new interactive experience they were developing in their research labs.  The new system, Code Named Epicenter, was designed to serve as the center of all information and communication for large corporate lobbies and waiting areas – integrating calendars, location based information, RFID tag reading, news feeds, scheduled content and more.

The Solution:

My team developed a new gesture based library to be used with the multi-touch interface, allowing users to interact in several dimensions.  This approach allowed for both a dashboard view of the application and then a more focused view of detailed content.  Our designs integrated both touch and voice feedback commands into the user interface. In the end, 18 different data feeds could be controlled by simple touch commands.
